What is the ATMS?

By now, you’ve come across the term ATMS several times.

ATMS stands for the Advanced Train Management System. It is designed to streamline communication between different parts of the entire rail network (the network control centre, the driver, the train and the tracks).

It allows for train movements through routes to be controlled automatically as well as improving how quickly the network control centre and driver can communicate to control train movements.

This video by Inland Rail gives an introduction to what ATMS is and how it works.

The ATMS is made up of these five components.

Each component has several hardware and software technologies that allow the ATMS to function smoothly.
