Your role in this work experience is a Junior Environmental Planner specialising in establishing and promoting responsible social and environmental culture in the workplace. As you progress through the content of each week, you will become familiar with relevant industry background, practical knowledge, and a variety of real-life tasks that will help you get a taste for this rewarding role.

Expect Videoask

You'll notice that throughout the work experience, we'll be asking you to use the Videoask platform – for example, to submit a video cover letter at the end of this week; doing weekly check-ins with our facilitator; and your final pitch to mentors in Week 4. Watch the video below for some tips about using Videoask, gaining confidence on camera, and why it's important for you to complete these submissions.

By participating wholeheartedly in this experience, you will gain:

  • Understanding of the key disciplines and concepts relevant to the work of a Junior Environmental Planner as well as their day-to-day tasks
  • Experience in planning execution of large scale projects and assessing the environmental impact 
  • Practice in use of important project management techniques, virtual field assessments of flora and fauna, and applying environmental protection legislation 
  • Understanding communication requirements for projects with multiple teams
  • Certified microcredential titled ‘Junior Environmental Planner Virtual Work Experience at Inland Rail’, that can boost your chances of kick-starting a career in areas related to geoscience
