Hello, fellow Environmental Planners! It’s been a pleasure being part of your work experience journey with you. You've reached the very last Task in this experience - go you!! 🙌 🎉

This wrap-up is going to be a little bit different. With all the skills and knowledge you've accumulated over this work experience, you're ready to take things one step further...

It’s time to push the boundaries and get creative.

The world, our climate, and technologies are all rapidly evolving. The way we think about and practice environmental planning has to evolve too, to make sure our planet is safeguarded for future generations to come.

You might like to draw inspiration from the video below.

You can read more about these factors and access free articles here.

For this gold-level task, you’ll be asked to propose and outline a project that is innovative and future thinking. Think big and think bold.

You’ll then pitch your idea to industry experts.

Every month, Grandshake will host a Future Ideas Spotlight – a feature blog for stand-out pitches that’s all about you, your idea, and your passion.

So let’s get into it! 🙌

Step 1: Get an idea of the areas that you might like to explore

In this work experience, you've considered two distinct, yet complementary fields - sustainability and communications/marketing. It's up to you which one you want to hone in on – maybe you look up to climate activists like Greta Thunberg who challenge world leaders in the area of climate action, or maybe, you want to propose another campaign that is close your heart.

For example, you might be interested in:

  • Target-based ecological compensation
  • Waste disposal
  • Mining and biodiversity solutions
  • Renewable energy initiatives
  • Urban environmental planning
  • Cultural heritage preservation initiatives
  • How new technologies can help us change the game of environmental planning

You can focus on large-scale solutions – for example, a pitch for government and policy reform – or small-scale solutions on the ground that individuals can implement themselves.

Find your passion in this field and tell us about it.

Of course, we don't expect you to know all the technical aspects of how you would implement your idea!

The goal of this task is to inspire you to think outside the box and dream big, so that one day when you do acquire the technical knowledge, you have the curiosity and creativity to push the envelope and make change happen.
