This program will introduce you to all the different phases of large-scale infrastructure projects, from surveying and geotechnical analysis, to excavation and project legacy.
Broadly speaking, civil engineering professionals are like the architects of modern society. They're responsible for conceptualising, designing, building, supervising, constructing, and maintaining buildings and transportation structures. They look at the world with an eye for fixing and improving the way we live and function on a daily basis.
That’s a pretty important job, if you ask us! 😎 We're thrilled to help you explore this rewarding career path. Find out if it's right for you in this Discovery experience!
Before we jump into it, make sure you download your virtual work experience Memobook.
Your Memobook will serve as a diary, brainstorm, and research document. You'll also need it for a number of activities throughout your work experience.
Most people are aware of the general categories in engineering - for example, mechanical, chemical, electrical, biomedical and, of course, civil engineering. But did you know there are many sub-categories, or specialisations, that fall under just the umbrella of civil engineering?
Each of these specialties play an important role in building projects and delivering a safe and sustainable asset that meets the client's needs.
For your first task, we want you to go to page 2 of your Memobook. 🙌
Research five civil engineering specialisations that you're most interested in and write 3-5 sentences elaborating on each.
