Signals and Systems Operator at Inland Rail

Inland Rail, a-once-in-a-generation project, is the backbone of a modern network for a modern nation. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities, and shapes the future.

With their well-developed ability to problem-solve, multi-task, and pay attention to detail, our Signals and Systems Operators direct and optimise the movement of trains every day. They operate signals from the network control centre in a way that serves the community and keeps people safe. They know how to work within time constraints; communicate with engineers, train personnel, emergency services, and maintenance technicians; and can keep calm when things go wrong. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undertake inductions and training as required within the workplace
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations
  • Authorise and direct the safe movement of trains.
  • Authorise and control any activity taking place on railway tracks, including maintenance work.
  • Reports any accidents or incidents to the land transport authority and any other relevant body such as emergency services.
  • Analyse emergency scenarios and develop action plans to manage risks

Desired skills, qualifications, and experience:

  • Year 10-12 high school student
  • Confident in own ability to acquire new knowledge quickly and with limited supervision 
  • Willingness to learn new software to plan projects 
  • Good problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Good self-organisation and time management skills
  • Good communication skills
