Did you know that when you’re interrupted during a task, it can take up to 20 minutes to refocus on what you were doing before you get distracted?

Apart from switching off notifications or turning your phone onto ‘Do not disturb’, you can also go all-out and block your access to distracting websites like Facebook or Youtube for a set period of time.

There are a bunch of apps and extensions for this. One example is SelfControl.

The key is that there’s no way to cheat: you can’t delete the application or avoid the blocker even by restarting your computer – you have to wait for the timer to expire.

Alternatively, set aside a block of time when you can deal with interruptions, like answering emails or messages.
