I chose to become a mentor because I remember as a teenager how difficult it was to choose what I wanted to do as a job - I was lucky and ended up doing something I enjoy and that has given me many opportunities. I am keen to pay some of that back and also to understand what choices teens face now so I can help my kids with their choices.
Civil Engineer by degree, and Geotechnical Engineer by day.
Nathan is a Civil Engineer that has specialised in Geotechnical or Ground Engineering. He's had some amazing opportunities over his career to work on a range of projects all around the world, including design of underground rail stations in London, Toronto and Hong Kong, Basement construction for the Dubai Opera and design and construction of Australian docks and jetties for international bulk ship loading. Most recently he has worked on big linear infrastructure projects, that is Road and Rail across Australia. His current role is as Engineering Manager, helping guide complex major projects from initial planning through to construction and final use. Engineering for Nathan has been exciting, rewarding and has opened up a world of opportunities, to do more than just build things, but to be part of making a positive difference.
Nathan has always loved maths and building things, but went into engineering without a complete understanding the different types of engineering available. That’s why he think programs like Grandshake are so cool!
