Join our new Electrical Technician work experience and discover how technicians keep our railway tracks safe and running. Learn to investigate faults in signalling systems and conduct necessary repairs, while keeping yourself and others safe in tricky electrical scenarios. Over the next four weeks, you’ll engage with practical problem solving and gain industry knowledge of electrical equipment, maintenance, and safety. You’ll also have the opportunity to gain exclusive feedback from mentors and leading industry experts at Inland Rail on your final project.

Reading and constructing electrical drawings and diagrams is an art-form and a skill that takes lots of practice. This section will give you basic comprehension of real-world electrical diagrams and give you an insight into how they are used by Electrical Technicians.
Electrical failures and repairs
Learn how to approach electrical repair jobs by considering how you would fix a track circuit failure. This section will dive into electrical safety, what causes track circuit failures to occur, how to diagnose them, and how come up with a strategy for getting trains running again.
